Did you have any idea that Bellarmine University has the only NCAA Division I lacrosse program at a Kentucky college? I didn't think so.
The school has come quite a ways since its days as Bellarmine College.
On Monday of this week, the university received a parking permit that will allow it to proceed with plans for a $4.2 million athletic stadium on Newburg Road to serve the lacrosse team as well as soccer, track and field hockey.
The permit will allow 235 parking spaces on a 15-acre site that is zoned for residential use. The property, which Bellarmine owns, is at 2324 Newburg -- across from the school's running track.
Newburg Road is still (!) only two lanes wide in as it passes by the campus, and quite naturally, a number of the school's neighbors are displeased with the prospect of additional traffic in the area as well as the attendant safety concerns.
Go Knights!
