From the Louisville Courier-Journal:
University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino said he knew from the first week of practice that the Cardinals would be in for a difficult 2005-06. At a news conference Friday to wrap up a season of unmet expectations, he expressed optimism for the immediate future.
Pitino virtually guaranteed that better times are ahead for the Cardinals (21-13) who plummeted from an NCAA Final Four team to a National Invitation Tournament semifinal squad. He cited improved health, improved depth and a “hungry and humble” attitude from his players. Though Pitino described the NIT as a valuable experience, he said the team is committed to making sure “that it doesn’t happen again.”
