From the University of Louisville news web site:
Kentucky Rep. David Floyd [Tuesday] presented University of Louisville President James Ramsey with a check for $1,000 to support RestoreUofL, a fund-raising campaign to help UofL recover from the August 4 flood.
Floyd, a Republican lawmaker who represents the state’s 50th District, which includes Bardstown, Kentucky, said he was “moved to help” the university after seeing video of extensive flooding there.
“In Bardstown, we didn’t get a drop of rain from the storm that flooded parts of Louisville and devastated the UofL campus,” he said. “When I read the reports (about UofL) I understood the need was genuine … so I wrote out a check for $1,000 and wanted to challenge others to do the same.”
UofL President Ramsey and University Provost Shirley Willihnganz each are matching Floyd’s contribution with $1,000 gifts of their own.
The money will go toward such things as planting new trees and redoing landscaping or into a fund to help UofL employees who lost cars and other personal items.
UofL suffered an estimated $15 million in damage from the flood, which university officials have called the worst natural disaster in the school’s history. Thirty people had to be rescued from rising water and 90 buildings were affected.
