Below is a nice Flickr set of photos taken at the Fan Celebration of the University of Louisville Men's and Women's basketball teams held at the KFC Yum! Center on Wednesday April 10, 2013.
After it ended, folks in Louisville had the good fortune to see a lot more than did the national audience, with local stations broadcasting (and yes, celebrating a bit) deep into the evening.
For those of us who didn't get the chance to observe any of that, WDRB's Eric Crawford has written a terrific piece that all Cardinals fans need to read.
Using the CBS-produced "One Shining Moment" video - which was also shown on the video boards in the Georgia Dome - as a framing device, he skilfully weaves the story of the game into a report on the postgame activities that weren't broadcast.
Athleticism, teamwork, family. Joy and tragedy and fulfillment.
All of these themes are integral to the story of this very special group of players and their very special coach.
Read Eric's story on the Cardinals' "One Shining Moment." It will make your day a bit happier.
After winning a national championship on Monday night, the U of L men's players asked coaches if they could attend the women's game in New Orleans.
"Our players asked," U of L coach Rick Pitino said. "And we asked the NCAA, but they said no. Apparently it would be an NCAA violation. They said it would be an extra benefit to the players."
So U of L's players will return to campus. And the NCAA misses an opportunity to show a positive -- men's and women's sports, supporting each other.
But if you're a Cardinals fan, you'll surely enjoy reading this love letter of sorts that Forde penned to the UofL Athletic Department last week in advance of the NCAA Tournament semifinal games.
Cardinals fans knew it wouldn't be easy to get back to the Final Four.
Not after the NCAA poobahs awarded Louisville the overall Number 1 seed in this year's NCAA Tournament and then showed them the back of their hand by filling the regional full of mine fields to navigate.
Game time is 4:05 PM CDT and the game watch party will be at Henry's Tavern in the Shops of Legacy in Plano, Texas (northeast corner of Bishop and Legacy).
Be sure to wear your RED and BLACK colors! GO CARDS!
